'Coaching Tip of the Week'
A weekly instalment, this simple tip and accompanying drill examples, distributed via email, reflects the needs and interests of the GBA coaching community and will be applicable to all age and experience levels. We are very grateful for the sacrifices GBA coaches, and coaches from other programs make to improve the quality of the sport in our community and this weekly communication is one way we can help to provide support. You can see a sample tip below and if you would like to begin receiving future tips, please submit your name and email address by clicking here.
Sample Tip
Our first 'Coaching Tip' revolves around the concept of basketball agility. It is often difficult to come up with interesting and appropriate drills to address the ABCs (Agility/Balance/Coordination/Speed). Well, here is a simple one that has numerous possibilities for progression. It focuses on basketball specific concepts like 'explosive first step', 'forward and backward balance', and 'quick, controlled stops'.
For the younger groups it would probably be enough to focus on the first step and stopping, while older players could progress quickly to using a second tennis ball - reacting, exploding and then reloading.
