Sharpen the focus and improve the quality Of junior referees
Referees play an important, but rarely acknowledged, role in player development and the overall reputation of an association. At the macro level, they are responsible for shaping the experience for parents, coaches and players from the moment the game begins until the final handshake. Too often, the care, attention and patience required to train young referees is underestimated, resulting in difficult situations arising during games, and long term implications for associations.
Having played, coached and been sideline parents of athletes in house league and competitive programs, we have seen first hand the challenges that arise from officials being unprepared, poorly trained or simply lacking confidence.Through the introduction of our ‘Junior Referee Course’ we are extending our character centred development philosophy to help young referees become confident, responsible and professional officials – capable of successfully managing games from the Novice to Midget levels.

How does the program work?
The course will be offered in the Fall, prior to the start of the House League season, and will include one in-class session, a practical on-court pre-season session and a mid-season follow-up session.
The curriculum will cover topics ranging from leadership development and managing conflict, to terminology and on court movements for two person mechanics. Each session will be capped at 20 participants and everyone attending the course will receive a training manual.
If you are a Junior Referee and would like to participate in our program, you can contact your association for more information. If you represent an association and would like to host this course for your referees, contact us for more information, you may be eligible to receive a financial credit on your registration package.
