CLARE MURPHY
DIRECTOR, COMPETITIVE PROGRAM
Clare sees basketball as more than a sport; it is a way to get involved in the community, develop character, connect with people, stay fit and have fun. After playing for various clubs around Ottawa, participating in provincial development programs and winning a high school city championship, Clare went on to captain the Bishop’s University Women’s Basketball Team. Sidelined by concussions, she travelled to Uganda with basketball players from across North America on an Athletes in Action trip that inspired her to further her coaching skills.
Over the past decade, Clare has been a counselor at a variety of camps and coordinated a youth basketball program at Bishop’s University. As an assistant coach with the Goulbourn Basketball Association, her teams have won Gold & Silver at Provincials. She is currently working on her Train to Train certification. Clare will also be attending University of Ottawa for Teacher’s College and assistant coaching the GeeGees Women’s Basketball Team. Her hope is to pay forward all the valuable life skills she learned through sport and help eager youth achieve their goals on and off the court.

STEVE KENNY
LEAD INSTRUCTOR – JUNIOR REFEREE DEVELOPMENT
Steve has been involved in sport, basketball in particular, for over 40 years. He has played, coached and officiated multiple sports over his decorated career as a High School Athletic Director. His focus has always been to use sport as a vehicle to help youth mature and grow and eventually return to the gym to do for others what he did for them. The countless ex-players and students that return to alumni events he puts on is a testament to the impact he’s had on those under his care. City Championships and OFSAA appearances are just a sidebar to the lessons and values he’s helped instill in literally thousands of kids over the years.
Using his basketball playing and coaching experience, Steve has transitioned to a well respected OVBABO certified referee for the last 22 years. This new perspective on the game has humbled and shaped him to become an even more well-rounded advocate and mentor for those involved in the game. He has managed the Junior Referee Program for the Nepean Blue Devils for the past three seasons where he trained, evaluated, assigned and mentored the next generation of basketball officials. Steve has been instrumental in developing Right Way’s ‘Leadership in Junior Refereeing Program’ and will act as the lead instructor in this area.
