our senior Advisors
At the root of true development for Right Way, whether working with players or coaches, is the necessity of having a leadership team that genuinely cares for people and wants to see them thrive. The decision to align ourselves with these Senior Advisors, will help to ensure we have the knowledge, experience and technical expertise to help those we work with reach their potential.

COACH DOUG ELLIOT
“There is no greater responsibility or gift as a coach than to be given an opportunity to lead young people and instil in them a life-long love and passion for the game of basketball and a desire to give back later in life.”
Doug Elliot has been involved in Ottawa Community basketball for the better part of 40 years. Passionate about what sports can do to help young people cope with the daily challenges that life presents, Doug has spent much of his life playing, following and coaching a variety of sports from many different athletic and emotional perspectives. He has been heavily involved in coaching youth basketball from the Novice to Junior house league, high school and competitive levels, and is currently involved with the Nepean Blue Devils Association.
Doug is a high school Social Studies teacher and head coach of the Senior Girls' and Senior Boys' Basketball teams at Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School, where in 2015 he was recognized by the Province as the recipient of the OFSAA Leadership in School Sport Award.
A husband to Karen and a very proud father of three basketball-loving kids (Megan, Cameron and Connor), Doug continues to value and prioritize skill development, understanding of the game, respect for the game and its process and an appreciation for all those that make the experience possible.
COACH IAN MACKINNON
“As an educator, and lifelong coach, holistic development of the individual is my ultimate goal and being successful within a team context can only strengthen this development.”
Ian MacKinnon has coached both high school, OBA club and development teams for the past 30 years. He has been an assistant coach with the University of Ottawa Women’s program since the start of the 2008-09 season and is currently the head coach of the 2017 and 2019 OFSAA Boys' AA Champion Ashbury College Varsity Boys’ Basketball Program.
An Ottawa native, for the past 14 years Ian has worked as the head of the Physical Education Department of the Junior School at Ashbury College. Since the beginning of his teaching / coaching career Ian has been committed to and believes in the necessity for development of life skills through competitive sport and more specifically basketball. He has chosen basketball as a means outside the classroom to share his expertise and the morals he values most. Ian advocates that basketball serves as a microcosm of society as a whole, and that many life experiences are mirrored in this setting. His leisure time is spent developing the Ashbury boys’ basketball program and using his experience in the game to provide extended learning opportunities and character development for players.
